How to Quote a Kitchen Fitting Job (Step by Step)
Kitchen fitting jobs are high value but complex to quote. Get it right and you'll make good money. Get it wrong and you'll be working weekends for free. Here's how to quote kitchen jobs properly.
Step 1: Understand the scope
Before you price anything, clarify what's included:
- Removal of old kitchen - including disposal? Disconnecting gas/electrics?
- Plumbing - just reconnection or moving waste/supply pipes?
- Electrics - new sockets, extractor fan, under-cabinet lighting?
- Tiling - splashback only or full walls and floor?
- Flooring - are you fitting it or is someone else?
- Worktops - supply and fit, or fit only?
- Appliances - are you fitting the oven, hob, dishwasher?
Step 2: Measure and list
Go through every unit, appliance, and fixture. For each item, note:
- What it is (base unit, wall unit, tall unit, worktop section)
- Time to fit (experienced fitters can estimate per unit)
- Any complications (uneven walls, old plumbing, tight spaces)
Step 3: Price the labour
Typical kitchen fitting labour rates in 2026:
| Job Element | Typical Cost |
|---|---|
| Strip-out old kitchen + disposal | £300–£600 |
| Fit units (supply-only kitchen) | £1,500–£3,000 |
| Worktop cut and fit (laminate) | £300–£500 |
| Worktop cut and fit (stone/quartz) | £800–£1,500 |
| Plumbing (sink, dishwasher, washing machine) | £300–£600 |
| Electrics (sockets, extractor, lighting) | £400–£800 |
| Tiling (splashback) | £300–£500 |
| Tiling (full walls) | £600–£1,200 |
| Flooring (vinyl or laminate) | £300–£600 |
Step 4: Add materials and margin
- If the customer is supplying the kitchen units, you're quoting labour only
- If you're supplying materials (adhesive, grout, fixings, waste pipe, etc.), add them as line items
- Standard markup on materials: 15–25%
Step 5: Present it professionally
Kitchen customers are spending big - often £8k–£15k+ including the kitchen itself. They expect a detailed, professional quote. Break it down by trade or by phase, include timelines, and specify what's excluded.
With Jobnix, you can build itemised kitchen quotes on site. Template your common line items, adjust for each job, and send a branded PDF before you drive home.
Common quoting mistakes on kitchens
- Not checking walls and floors - if they're not level or plumb, fitting takes longer
- Forgetting to allow for waste disposal - old kitchens are heavy, skip hire adds up
- Assuming standard plumbing - waste positions rarely match the new layout
- Not specifying exclusions - "does that include the tiling?" is the question you want to avoid
